18th Day of 25 Days of Craftsmas // Soldered Leather Gift Tags

Be warned, this craft requires the use of a soldering iron, which is actually really fun. I just realized I had one (it's Austin's) and I am REALLY loving it. If you don't have one, I don't see why you couldn't use an ink pen or something like that.

Supplies:

  • Enough scrap leather for as many tags as you need
  • Soldering iron - or cool ink pen
  • Letter stencil if you don't trust your own handwriting

Directions:

Cut the leather into the classic tag shape or simply in a circle. If you are using a stencil, draw your letter with a pen first and then solder over it. Be very careful because it is very very hot. You basically use it as you would a pen but it is actually burning the design into the leather. To make a hole in the top, simply use the iron to burn a hole through. Be creative and do other designs too. I made a little compass one and also burned a border on the bottoms of the tags. These make a great little gift because you can save them and use it as an ornament for next year :)
