Beauty: A Natural Look

When I wear make-up I tend to want it look like I'm not really wearing make-up. So here is what I do for a natural beauty look. Again, I am in no way trained to be a beautician so anyone can accomplish this subtle look. As a little bonus, we are giving you a recipe for cleaning your make-up brushes!

  1. The first step is to get your skin looking smooth and dewy. I start with moisturizer and then lightly brush on foundation to problem areas. I try to keep as much natural skin showing as possible. So I focus on the spots under my eyes and blemishes, etc. Whatever your routine is, do that.
  2. Next, gently brush some bronzer on your cheeks below the cheek bone and on the top of the forehead. Lightly brush it anywhere the sun may naturally bronze you. I like to put highlighter on the tops of my cheekbones and on the brow bone.
  3. Apply blush to the apples of your cheeks and then take a clean brush and blend it together. You are trying to accomplish a flushed, dewy look.
  4. For the eyes, I take a highlighter pencil and put it in the corners of my eyes and halfway on the lower lash line. After that, I gently brush on some pale pink frosty eyeshadow. Blend this well with your finger. You don't want to look like an ice queen. Add a few coats of mascara after that.
  5. Define your eyebrows. I use a brow kit and just darken them a bit and then brush through with a brow brush to get everything in it's place.
  6. I used a subtle lip stain on my lips and then applied balm over the top. Spritz a little rose water on your face to set it all.

Done and done!

For the brush cleanser:

  1. I searched the web and found that most people use a combination of dish soap and olive oil. I used dish soap and hair conditioner. It worked well. To start, get a bowl of warm water and put in a teaspoon or so of dish soap and a teaspoon of conditioner. Allow the brushes to soak and then move them around to get all the yuck out.
  2. Rinse them well and and allow them to dry on a cloth and then reshape them. Do this about once a week.
