25 Days of Craftsmas: Mini Tassels

I, Christina, decided to incorporate the larger version of these tassels in my wedding this past April. If you decide to do this for a big party, get some friends to help! It can be time consuming but they are a lot of fun and you can use them in a lot of ways. You can see them incorporated in my wedding

here

and in our next post we will show how to use them in a festive way for the season!

Supplies:

  • Tissue paper in color(s) of choice
  • Gold mylar sheets - if you're brave enough. (We ordered in bulk from the internet)
  • Hot glue gun & hot glue
  • Self-Healing cutting board
  • Rotary cutter

1. You need to start by cutting long strips of tissue paper and mylar. The width of each strip should be about 1" thick. The length can be the length of the tissue paper.

2. The mylar can be tricky, so take your time. Allot enough time for it if you are doing a lot of tassels. Be sure to lay out the strips carefully after cutting them so they will be easy to work with in the next step.

3. Take a handful of strips in either all one color or a mix of colors. You'll probably want about 10 strips, but you can use your judgement for how thick you want your tassels.

4. Twist them very tightly in the middle. 4-5 tight twists should do the trick.

5. Now twist them to make a little loop. It is important to twist them enough that it forces the tissue paper to fluff correctly.

6. Put a dab of hot glue to hold the twist in place. Hold tight until it has dried.

7. Since we are making mini-tassels, we trimmed the ends to make them short. If you are making long tassels feel free to just trim them enough to even them out.
